Sweaters Afghans Knitting Crochet Patterns American Thread Aunt Lydia's Book 177

This booklet was issued in the 1960s without Copyright notice, making it available in the public domain.    I have scanned several of the patterns in this book and made them available in my Todays Treasure shop.   Not only does it contain a nice variety of sweaters for both men and women, there are a couple of afghans, but also a delightful array of vintage picture styles, which I'm sharing with you here.

American Thread, Book 177
What wonder cover art !   Do you remember these TV styles and listening to vinyl records?

Here's the set just modeled on the front cover.  Mens and womens crocheted cardigan sized at 10 - 16 for her, and 38 - 44 for him.

Easy Block Afghan Crochet Pattern, Vintage 1960s
Afghan Fantasy - This earth-toned piece afghan is crocheted with a wooden hook.  The finished piece is approximately 53" x 73".   What an interesting display for it ... A room with only flowers on a very tall pedestal, being kept warm with the afghan.   There is also a hint of ironworks in shadow on the back wall.

Mens Knitted Sweater, S-M-L and Womens Striped Poncho - One Size.   This couple and scenario, interacting with the records are also featured on the back cover.    The backdrops are same as front cover .. perhaps these are friends and/or their children.

Striped Bulky Pullover Knitting Pattern
The Long Pullover  has warm and comfy written all over it.  This is a knitting pattern sized Small and Large.  Remember those flip hairdo's?

Beginners Stripped Slippers Crochet Pattern
Crocheted Slippers, sized S-M-L - these crochet striped pretties are an easy beginners project to know only practice technique, but have something warm and sturdy to wear as well.     This patterns is offered in a separate blog post, and placed in the Free Pattern Section of my Blog as well.

Man's Raglan Slipover (You can wear it, too).  Sweater is knitted and sized S-M-L.   I love the title insinuation that only a woman would be knitting this ... versus a His & Hers type title.

Rah Rah Striped, Knitted Sweater sized Small (34 - 36), Medium (38 - 40), and Large (42 - 44)

Knitted Block Afghan in Popcorn Stitch
Sand and Sea Afghan.  A wonderful blocked afghan is knitted with crochet edges.   Match some color matching, this beauty will match any decor.   The finished piece measures 50 x 68 inches.

Mans Knitted Casual Cardigan Pattern
Four Button Cardigan (knitted lengthwise).   Size S-M-L.  Now, the big question.   Would this cardigan look as funky if it were NOT worn by a man with that particular expression on this face (not to mention the skinny tie).

Easy Vest Crochet Pattern
The Crocheted Eton, sized S & M.   Notice it's the same model with the great flip?

The Knitted Shell, sized S-M-L.   Note the small shell at the lower edge?  This is obviously an accessory; it is not part of the pattern.   Great fashion suggestion though .. put our accessories in a 'non-standard' place.   The result is eye-catching.

Bulky Crochet Bi-Color Jacket Pattern
Cork and Spice, Everythings Nice Crochet Sweater sized 32 - 40.  This one is wonderfully textural without looking bulky.    Have you noticed that the below elbow and/or three quarter length sleeves were very popular in the 60's?

All Around Classic, Knitted Sweater for him and her (although only 'her' gets pictured).   Sized S-M-L for both of them.

The End !

So, what do you think?   Delightful style and art .... or not?   Actually, although the color pages are whimsical, the black and white pictures went to an extreme and placed the models up against a dark panel wall.   Not sure what that is all about !

Overall, it is a fun and whimiscal book with the typical designs and artwork of the 1960s.   I like it.

Thanks for dropping by,
Lorrie
