Sweaters Knitting Crochet Patterns American Thread Star Book 166

Now here is a great little pattern book.  It's American Thread Company Book, Star Book 166.   The book isn't dated, however, based on the pictures, I'd place it early 1960's.    The book, titled Sweaters Bulkies Knitted and Crocheted, is full of just that .... great sweaters.   Lacking is the mod style of the 60's; there's just standard sweaters that ladies then wanted to wear, and, I would assume, still do.   There's two selections in here that just may be of interest to the man as well.

There's 13 patterns in all.   Here, let me show you.

This is, of course, the front cover of American Thread Co Star Book No 166. It features
these two patterns ...
Chevron Striped Pullover with the bold 3 color motif across the front, back and sleeves.
Crocheted Striped Cardigan in four colors with contrast sleeves.

Ladies Knit Cardigan is sized to fit women 38 to 50 in two choices  

This is the Chevron Stripe Pullover.  (also illustrated on the front cover).

Crocheted Fringed Block Pullover is an easy design, perfect for beginners. 

 Quickie Popover is color blocked and a super easy (big needle) knit. 

 All Over Pattern Sports Sweater has a lot going on - It's a loose-fitting, colorful (even in black and white) sweater sporting the popular bateau neckline and long sleeves. 

His and Her Cables can be knit with either a round neckline or turtleneck. 

Bulky Block Design sized for a man 36 to 46.

More Cables for Him stands out in this texturaly attractive sweater.   This is knitted with bulky yarn and sized 38, 40 and 42.

Crocheted Cardigan in an easy diamond block motif.  A perfect pattern for beginners.  

Turtleneck Slipover ... WOW ... what a lovely cowl neck ... and, would you believe that it is detachable ?     

 Crocheted Blouse with a fringed collar.  (May I suggest adding some beads as well?)

 Big Needle Turtleneck Pullover - His & Hers is knit in two color yarns.  This is a super quick and easy knit.  

This is the Mens & Womens Ski Sweater.  This is a knitting pattern; the graph for the motif is included.   It is sized Small (10-12), Medium (12-14), Large (14-16) for her and 36 - 44 for him.

His and Hers Ski Sweaters take the spot on the back cover.   Sized small, medium and large for both.

Overall this is a good solid pattern book.  More than half of the patterns are on the easy side, making them perfect for beginners working on their skills.  Some of the 1960s books from American Thread were a little over the top in the whimsy category, but this one stays on track.

My favorites, well, I really like the turtleneck slipover; and the crocheted cardigan could quite easily become a staple in my wardrobe.
