Crochet Ski Sweater Free Pattern Vintage 1960s

This chunky pullover ski sweater is quite cute.   It features the typical round neckline, long sleeves, a textural design and the extra touch of crocheted flowers added in.

Crochet Ski Sweater
This pattern is from Coats and Clark's Book 172, Style Show, Fashions to Knit and Crochet.   I've listed this book in my shop in PDF format.   There is also a photo-journal of the booklet here in the blog, if you'd like to see all the delightful patterns in the book.   I like to share a pattern, or two, from each of the booklets in the Free Patterns section.    I thought you might like this one.

So, what do you think.   Are you going to give it a try ?

Style Show Knitting Crochet Patterns, Coats Clarks Book 172

This booklet, Style Show, Fashions to Knit and Crochet is by Coats and Clark's.  It is their Book No 172 and features use of their Red Heart Yarns.  In other words, purchase this book for the wonderful patterns, and then buy their yarn to work the patterns.     Although one would expect equal billing between knit and crochet based on this title, all but two of the patterns are knitting.

Enjoy the ....
Style Show - Fashions to Knit and Crochet
The booklet begins, as usual, with the first three patterns in the book.
This is the Knit Shell.  It may be made of Super Fingering, as shown on the front cover, or Knitting Worsted, as shown here.  It is sized 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20.
This is the Stable Boy Sweater, for her.   It's a loose fitting pullover for ribbed v-neckline and edges.  It is knitted and sized 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20.
Here's the Argyle Knit Shell (also shown on the front cover).  The pattern includes a stitching chart.  It is sized 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18.

This is the Plaid Knit Suit, in the remarkable Jackie O style.   This is, of course, a two piece suit, top and skirt, double breasted effect with the collar matching the skirt.   This knitting pattern is sized 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18.

This is the Mohair Knit Dress.  The pattern calls for Mohcora yarns, which I'm assuming from the dress pattern, must be semi-varigated.   This attractive dress, with three quarter length sleeves, waist band and roll collar is sized 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18.

This is the Dolman Knit Sweater with a nice mix of color blocking going on, as well as the faux front band and high turtleneck collar.   This pattern is sized 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18.
This is the Knit Coat, Scarf and Dress Pattern, although you have to look to the last page (bottom picture) to see the coat and scarf.   The dress is a classic straight piece with short sleeves.  Wear it casually, or dress it up with a scarf or pearls.   The coat is a straight simple garment that would be both perfect with the dress, or jeans.   The scarf is a separate piece.   The dress and coat are sized 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18

This is the Crochet Dress and Coat.   It is the same as the Knit Dress and Coat just shown (with Coat and scarf being in the bottom picture), is simply crochet instead of Knit.   Actually, this is a nice touch to make the pattern available in both medias.

This is the Crochet Ski Sweater with floral Motif.  It's a cute pullover even without the flowers!.  It is sized Small (10/12), Medium (14/16) and Large 18/20).

The back cover shows us the Knit and Crochet Coat and Scarves not shown above with their respective dress patterns.

Overall, this is a nice book of rather classic designs.   A fair number of wardrobe additions to be made here.    I would say this is a booklet for intermediate to advanced stitchers.    I've scanned this book to PDF format, and it is available in my shop.   A couple of the patterns are available separately, as indicated under their pictures.

Knitted Cap Free Pattern, The Top-Notcher with Fringe, Vintage 1960s

This knitted ski type hat is officially called the Top Notcher.

This hat was one of the featured patterns in Coats and Clark's Book 160 called Fashion Favorites to Knit and Crochet, Copyright 1965 (Copyright expired and in public domain).    I think the fringe on the top gives it an extra touch of fun.

I've listed this booklet in my shop in PDF format.  Or, if you'd like to see what all is in the book, visit my photo journal blog post

Happy Knitting, and thanks for dropping by,

Crochet Pattern Flowered Shell Free Vintage 1965

This shell, even in black and white, is delightful !  The original colors called for in the pattern are Navy Blue and White, but, you can use whatever color scheme you desire.

This pattern, B-509, is from Coats and Clark's Book 160 from 1965 (copyright expired). I've listed this booklet in my shop in PDF format.   But, as part of these listings, I like to offer one of the patterns here in my Free Patterns/Tutorials section.  A photo journal of the book can be seen here under a separate blog post, as well.

Here's the pattern  .....

Shells Sweaters Knitting Crochet Patterns, Coats Clark Book 160, Fashion Favorites

In 1965, Coats and Clark's put out Book 160, which they titled Fashion Favorites to Knit and Crochet.  This booklet was part of their Red Heart Yarns Promotions.    It contains 15 Patterns, all but three are knitting.

Ready to journey through the book ?

Fashion Favorites to Knit and Crochet
These lovely ladies skated and skied right in for the photo shoot !  They are giving you a preview of patterns to follow.

This is the same blue striped beauty you just saw above.  It's the Patterned Pullover and Helmet Hat..  It's easy to knit in these stripes ... the sweater is worked from side edge to side edge, in stockineete stitch, and the ribbing at the lower edge is added later.  This sweater is knitted and sized 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18.
This is the Ski Bunny Sweater and Hat special.  The fishermen from Fair Isle would have trouble recognizing their traditional patterns in this up-to-the-minute (remember, 1965) sweater !   This is not for beginners.  This is a knitting pattern and sized Small (10/12), Medium (14/16), Large 18/20).    This pattern, in color, is shown on the center woman in the front page photo.

This young woman skated in to show us ... Cut a Fine Figure in the Figure Eight Sweater and Head-Hugger. The crocheted puff stitches form the diamond pattern on this pretty pullover, which is then embroidered with as many flowers as you desire.  (Note: A pattern is not included for the flowers).  This Crochet Pattern is sized Small (10/12), Medium (14/16) and Large (18/20).

An easy motif, plus 1-2, results in this dainty shell.  This Shell is crocheted and sized Small (10/12), Medium (14/16) and Large (18/20).
This pattern is available in the Free Patterns/Tutorial Section of this blog.

This sweater is Big, Bulky and Beautiful.  The wide-open cables form a lattice affect on this easy-going sweater, with raglan sleeves and a deep ribbed neckline.  It is worked up from the lower edge.  This Raglan Pullover is knitted and sized 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18.

This hat is called the Top-Notcher, and the fringe at the top is just downright fun.   Knit it in one color, as shown, or stripe it in mad colors, or perhaps, use varigated yarns.
This pattern is available in the Free Patterns/Tutorials section of this blog.

As dashing a design as you'll ever wear (as emphasized by the expression on our model), this elegant cape it knitted of Red Heart Sayelle.  If desired, it may be lined in a contrasting or matching color .. you'll need 3 years of 36" fabric.  This knitting pattern is sized Small (10/12), Medium (14/16) and Large (18/20).

This is the Shell Trim Crocheted Vest. A simple single crochet pattern stitch results in this attractive texture, and the Shell stitch edge is right in style.  The pattern is Sized 10/12, 14/16, 18/20, 42/44.

Here is a great looking Ribbed and Ruffled Blouse / Sweater.   The great neckline ruffles are nicely matched with the softer ruffles at the wrists.  This is a knitting pattern, sized 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18.

This is the Ripple-Knit Two-Piece Dress.   It's todays (1965) version of great-grandmother's afghan.  This is a knitting pattern and sized Small (10/12), Medium (14/16) and Large (18/20).    You can see it in color on the back cover.

And, last but not least, is this Kntted Lacy Shift.   Mauke it in black and you'll have the equivalent of that 'Little Black Dress'.   Dress it up and wear it in the evening, or dress it down and wear it as-is.   (IMO ... the gloves are overkill!).    This knitting pattern is sized 120, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20.  This pattern is also shown on the back cover.

The End of Photo-Journey of Book 160

If you are interested, this book, in PDF Format, is available in my shop.

I particular like the names on the hats; in addition to the usual cap, we have a helmet and a head-hugger.  Now, maybe these are not new names, but I've not heard them before.     I also adore the way these booklets portray their models.   A very serious look for a dashing Cape, a smiling girl in skates for the flowery sweater.    But, how do you think large shaggy dogs line up with the last two dress patterns?

Simplicity 4926 - Little Fish Costume Pattern

If you are searching for Simplicity 4926 and followed a link to here, let me start by apologizing.   I, unfortunately, do not have this pattern in my inventory.

I was just looking through my Google analytics and realized that this particular  item is in the top 5 viewed patterns in my shop.   And, as I said above, it unfortunately isn't even there.    (Artfire maintain links to history).  And, this pattern does not seem restricted to Halloween.   I receive at least a message a month from someone who found my link and, even though it says 'Sold Out' are just hoping that is not true.    It seems that Fish are a very common theme in childern school plays, and thus, the year round demand.

One woman told me that she even sent a message to Simplicity asking them if they would republish this pattern.   After some time, she received a response back that it was not popular enough for them to do so.   Pardon me !

Perhaps I should also send them a message letting them know that elementary school moms (and dads too), and production teachers, etc. etc. etc. need them to put out this pattern that might just be the right touch of self-esteem to turn that young performing fish into a great talent in our future.

Perhaps, we should group together and start a campaign.

If you are desperate for a fish, I did happen across a Fish Hat Tutorial Pattern over at Lilybug Designs.   It's not the whole costume, but it is quite cute and just might appease your little fish.

Hip Huggers Vest Skirt Sewing Pattern in 5 Easy Pieces Simplicity 8411

This pattern, Simplicity 8411, Copyright 1969,  is not only a Jiffy Pattern, it is Super Jiffy.

image

These garments are created using one primary pattern piece each -  one piece for the skirt, one for the pants (well actually two when you count the pockets) and one primary piece for the Vest (plus a pocket and facing).    The pants and skirt have an elasticized waistband.

Having been a teenager in the early 70s, I spent several years in hip-huggers, (and platform shoes, of course).   I never had any with an elasticized waistband, but, if one didn't find them quite fashionable enough, I bet they would make very comfortable lounge pants made up in a lightweight cotton.    The Vest looks both easy to make and, with the long blank expanses, would be a canvas for creativity.

I have a couple listed in my shop, if you are interested.   If these are not in the right size for you, check Vintage Wikia for other sizes.

How to Make a Hand Mirror Cover Pattern

Back in the 60's and into the 70's we girls had round mirrors with handles and, if we were real lucky, our Moms decorated these, often to look like ourselves.   You know, you hold it up and look in the mirror and another girl is looking back at you.

Here's a pattern to craft one for your special girl.   I'm sure this type of mirror ... one with a handle ... is still available !   It just takes some yarn, some felt, a little ribbon and whatever other adornments you'd like to add.

This pattern is from American Thread Book 195, Make it with Aunt Lydia's Rug Yarn, issued back in the 1960s as advertising promotion.   If you'd like to see what else is available in this book, just click on the above link.

Have fun crafting !

Boys Toddlers Suit Sewing Pattern Simplicity 9349 Vintage 1970s

imageNow, I'm sure that no little boy, especially at the age that would wear a size 3, would be thrilled to wear a suit (particularly the tie part), but, sometimes occasions arise.

This is an adorable option to sew up for his special occasion appearance.   And, for the price 2 yards of fabric (jacket & pants), and a few hours of sewing time ... and, here you go.

Or, for those more casual, but still dressy affairs, go without the tie and he can be 'work casual', just like Daddy.

I've listed this one, in a Size 3, in my shop.   Jusk click on the above picture for more information.   Although not alot, I do have a couple
Other Boys Suits in my shop, should you feel like browsing.

Father Son Matching Pullover Shirt Patterns Vintage Jean Hardy 10 20

Awhile back, I was entering a small lot of Jean Hardy Patterns into my shop when I realized the similarity between Pattern 10 and Pattern 20.   I'd say we have a potential Father and Son Matching set here ....

image

Yes, I think so.   A father and son matching set.

I did a few Google search for Jean Hardy Vintage 1970s patterns to see if this was something they did frequently, however, there is not a whole lot about them.   There is an official Jean Hardy site, which indicates they specialize in equestrian and western wear.  I looked, however, at Vintage Wikia and there are a variety of patterns there, also 1970s, that are definitely not western.    So, I'm guess, that over the last 20 years, Jean Hardy has changed from being a 'general' pattern company to specialized.

If you are interested in these patterns (they are multi-size) they are (currently) listed in my shop.    Just click the links over the picture.

Front Wrap Skirt Sewing Pattern

Front Wrap Skirts come in a variety of styles.  Some tie and some button.   Some wrap on the right, and some on the left.   Some are real basis and some get the fancy going on with pleats, gathers, maybe in a flounce here and there.    Let me know show you a few of the favorites I have hanging around my shop at the moment.
This is a WOW Skirt.  There's the maxi length that's perfectly suitable for evening wear with variations the include front pleats and back gathers.   It's a right wrap.

This has that teen girl look to it with the eyelet lace or piping around the entire edge.   It is jumps out and reminds you of the 70s, you are right on track ... 1971.    It's a left wrap.

This wrap skirt gives options of a flat or pleated front.   Make it mini or more.   It's a left wrap and it's easy ... being in the 1 Hour Series.

This lovely below knee wrap skirt is left buttoned with an asymmetrical option.

And this one is a wrap skirt by title only.   It's official name is 'Wrap Skirt', and although it has wonderful asymmetrical front pleats, it has a back zipper.   No Wrap Here !

These are (currently) available in my shop; just click the link over each picture.     There are, of course, a good number more Wrap Skirt available, if you'd like to continue browsing.

Boxy Pullover Dress with Straight Skirt Sewing Pattern McCalls 2784

I'd think, one would have to be quite thin, to make this dress work.  Tall probably wouldn't hurt either !

The bodice is front buttoned with extended shoulders, shoulder pads, collar and optional patch pockets.  The dress folds down and over the elastic waist seam to the straight skirt.  The long sleeves are buttoned into cuffs.

Here's a better look !
It's definitely a 'different than the norm' look.   It's eye-catching and interesting.   Well worth a second, and perhaps third look.   If you have the right figure type.   (Which I definitely don't).

I've listed this one in my shop in a multi-size 6-8-10.   So, what do you think of the style?   I'd primarily like to have the body type to compliment it ... and then, I'd like it very much.

Misses Beret Hat, Free Knitting Pattern

What a great classic -- the knitted beret.
This pattern is from Coats & Clarks Book 147, titled Mohair Fashions to Knit and Crochet.    I've listed this (public domain) booklet in my shop in PDF format, as well as featured in a Corresponding blog post.   As part of these listings, I like to offer at least one of the patterns on a free basis.   For this booklet, I've chosen this one.

Knitting Crochet Patterns, Mohair Fashions, Sweaters Shawls Coats & Clarks Book 147

This vintage pattern booklet by Coats and Clark, Book 147, titled Mohair Fashions to Knit and Crochet, contains a nice assortment of sweaters and coats.    This booklet was issued in 1964 as part of their C&C Red Heart Mohcora promotion.    (Booklet now in public domain).   All 12 patterns are outer wear, sweaters, coats, shawls, for both men and women, as well as one beret.   Most of the patterns are knitting; 2 are crochet; one requires both.      Here, let me show you.

The front cover gives us a color preview of a sweater and a coat.

This is patterns pictured on the cover.   We have a crocheted coat, sized Small, Medium and Large, as well as a Knitted Cardigan (with the marvelous collar), that is also sized Small, Medium and Large.

This Womans Knitted Pullover is lovely piece !   It is Sized 10, 12, 14, 16 & 18.   The pattern also references a separate pattern for a womans dickey, which, I'm assuming, is the big of teal blue we see at her neckline.
The Mans Knitted Cardigan is an equally distinguished sweater, sizes Small (36/38), Medium (40/42) and Large (44/46).

The 'Turtle Neck' on this pattern is certainly not enough description for this marvelous neck/collar.   It's also a Cable Pullover.   It is Knitted and Sized 10, 12, 14, and 16.
The Crocheted Shawl is perfect for those 'a little bit cool' evenings!   To complete it, you also need a couple snap fasteners or buttons.   The shawl in one-size.

The Boat Neck on this Man's Pullover Sweater gives it a refined look.    This is a knitting pattern and is sized for chest 38, 40, 42 and 44.
The womans stole is soft and delicate in appearance.   It is also knitted and is one-size.

This set is also shown on the back cover in color.   The womens knitted Channel Jacket is sized 12, 14, 16 and 18.
The mens V-Neck pullover is also knitted and sized for chest 38, 40, 42 and 44.

Here's a classic duo; a coat and a cardigan.     The V-Neck, front buttoned cardigan is knitted, with crocheted edges.    It is sized small (30-32), medium (34-36), large (38-40).

The knitted Raglan Coat (with marvelous collar) is also sized small (30-32), medium (34-36), large 38-40).

This is a knitted V-Neck Pullover Sweater.   The varigated yarn used in this sweater forms its own design as you knit so that each sweater is truly an original design.  Note - the sleeves continue up to form the yoke.   This pattern is sized 10, 12, 14, 26 (for bust sizes 30 - 36).

The only hat in the book makes an appearance here in the stylish piece - the Knitted Beret.
This pattern is available in Free Patterns/Tutorials

And, on the back page, a color photo of the above mens sweater and womens jacket.

Overall, at least in my opinion, a really nice group of sweater, coat and shawl sweaters are contained here.   No fluff projects to fill the pages, classics start to finish.

This book is available in my shop in PDF format, if you are interested.     A couple of the patterns are available individually (in PDF format), as noted below the respective picture
