Going all the way back to 1972, Coats & Clarks issued Free Leaflet 1046 to create four little crocheted dolls.
These are actually Country Themed Christmas dolls. A being dutch, B being Japanese, C being Russian and D0 being Spanish. This Free Leaflet was part of their promotion of their Knit-Cro-Sheen Mercerized Cotton threads. I'd guess they were displayed by the threads.
Since they issued this as a Free Leaflet, I'm listing it here in my Free section as well. If you make up these little sweeties, do drop back by and let me know how they turn out.

Angel Quilt Patterns
I had a message today from a woman looking for a specific pattern to create an angel quilt for her granddaughter. I didn't have what she was searching for, but I do hope she finds it. Angels are just one of those things that we like to create .... hang in our homes, adorn our clothing, and, of course, give as gifts.
Here's a couple that I do have.
There may be a few more, they come and go !
Thanks for stopping by,
Lorrie
Here's a couple that I do have.
The description for this quilt was written with a Christmas theme, but there is no reason that 'Betsy' cannot be a year-around joy. Make her up in a varying group, or a single panel, wall hanging. Paper piece her to cards or applique her on clothing.
This sweet gals are angels to guard your garden. They are also little mixed media pieces of art. Make one up for yourself, and then make one for all the special gardeners in your life.
This is a folk-art country wallhanging. It's also a mixed media piece of fiber art, calling for a wide variety of materials. Hang this one in a special place.
This angel is adorable. Not only on the small quilt / wallhanging, but as a separate doll. She is more than keepable, she is giftable.
There may be a few more, they come and go !

Rug Yarn Bazaar, To Crochet Knit, Coats Clarks Book 184
This booklet was put out in 1968 by Coats & Clark's to promote their O.N.T. line of Rug Yarns. It's titled Rug Yarn Bazaar and contains 18 patterns to knit or crochet a variety of items, all, of course, which use Rug Yarn. I suppose many of these items were typically bazaar items in the 1960's (??), thus the title Bazaar. Here are not only rugs, but sweaters, bags, slippers, little plaques and such. A bit of this and that, you mgiht say, with no central theme other than rug yarn. (note: there are 18 pictures here; if you have a slow connection, hang in there and you'll get a preview of all the patterns)
A-707 - Flower Fantasy Bundle Rug - Yarn is would around Bundle Winder, then sewed to burlap or canvas background following (included) chart for design. This pattern is shown on the front cover in color.
A-708 - Polishing Mitt ... loops on palm of mitt make polishing a breeze ! This mitt is crocheted with a Size G hook. You'll also need 1 bone ring.
A-709 - Dutch Duo Wall Plaques - (now these you don't see every day!). Each plaque, measuring 5.5" x 9" is crocheted with a Size H hook. You'll also need small buttons, red felt and two bone rings.
A number of the patterns in this book are available in my shop, as noted by the links under the pillow. Although it is small, I think the Knit Pouch is one of my favorites. It would be so perfect to hold all those small items.
One more book done, many more to follow ! Thanks for dropping by,
Lorrie

Noahs Ark Pattern Book, Most Popular Week of 5/20
When I started this Most Popular blog series, I fully expected there to be a different pattern each week. And, I've learned this is not necessarily so. There were changes over the last week, however, that I just MUST comment on.
1st -- the all time No 1 Pattern, Simplicity 4926, the fish pattern has fallen to No 5. First time in two years. Perhaps Google is giving it a rest. And, Butterick 3816, Strapless Formal with Shrug, from three weeks ago, moved back to the number 1 position. Since Ive already covered this pattern, which is still not what everyone is looking for, since it has not sold, I'm moving on to what is actually number two ...... Drumroll Please .....
Leisure Art 10030, Rainbow's Promise - A Noah's Ark Quilt Pattern. I'm not sure what prompted so many to look at this particular pattern, but it was apparently just what someone wanted, as it sold. I'll admit that this caught me totally off guard. So far, the most popular (except for that fish, of course), relates to time of year (like bathing suits and shorts are starting to move up), but Noah's Ark. To my knowledge, we are not getting to much rain anywhere in this country ! (We've not had any rain in at least 50 days). Do you think it might have to do with that Doomsday event that didn't happen last week? I went out to see if there were others available at other sources to give you a link (should anyone still be looking), but could not find one.
The only other items I have remotely related to Noahs Ark, should you be interested, are :

Pineapple Pageant, Ruffled Doilies Pattern, Clarks Coats Book 252
Here we go, all the way back to 1948 ... The Spool Cotton Company, under the name of Clark's, J&P Coats, brought us Pineapple Pageant, Book 252. This book brings us a delightful array of vintage (literally) pineapple doilies. There are 12 patterns in total and, just like the title would lead you to believe .... they are pineapple doilies. If you are one of the many pineapple motif fans, you should enjoy looking at these. Here, let me show you !
D-120 - Pineapple Trellis - This small, 8.5" square, doily is quite elegant with the
single pineapple flower on a mesh trellis and simple ruffle.
I've reformated these doilies to PDF format and they are available in my shop - just follow the links below the pictures. This is quite a time consuming task, and I spend a lot of time with each book. Going through this one, I kept coming up with two consistent thoughts .... besides absolutely lovely, of course.
1) - D119 - Thistledown: I can't find an identifiable pineapple here. Perhaps a skinny bottom, but certainly not a complete pineapple. It's a lovely doily, yes ... pineapple, no.
2) - D123 / Kingfisher Nest. I was not sure what a Kingfisher next was supposed to look like, so I did a couple image searches, and - not even close.
I have little crochet skills, so I cannot much comment much past this on these pieces. All I know is they are exquisite. I'd think if you can make these, you must be truly talented and patient. (That's assuming they are difficult with all those tiny stitches!).
The only thing I do know about these, is when I was a girl, once in awhile my mother would make me dust. And, when I'd lift up on of her doilies, the pattern would be outlined in the dust; the negative you might say. (I suppose she should have made me dust more often !). Anyway, they are lovely.

Pineapple Pageant, Book No 252
The front cover previews D-127, shooting star -- see below, as I've obviously
scanned the back cover twice.
scanned the back cover twice.
D-127 - Shooting Star - 11" x 16" - This doily, made in two circular sections features five point star surrounded by pineapples and the wide row of ruffles.
D-125 - Sundial - 13" in diameter is in a sundial design with pineapple themed hands (of time).
D-126 - Cornfield - 14.5" in diameter. I'm not sure where the Cornfield comes into play for the title, but it certainly does have plenty attractive pineapples.
D-118 - Whirlwind created using pineapple motif measures 12 inches square. Add to the the deep ruffled doily for a real winner.
D-117 - Palm Fronds - 12.5" in diameter - waving in the air (around the linen center) just as pineapple fronds might.
D-115 - Cloverleaf - 11" across center from point to point. Here you have pineapple motifs
within the four leaf clover.
D-123 - Kingfisher's Nest - 10" in diameter. I'll admit that I'm taking 'their' word on whether or not this resembles a kingfisher nest, as I don't know what they look like, but the pineapples here are lovely and the mesh is ample.
D-119 - Thistledown - 15" in diameter, including the tall and proud roll of ruffles.
D-121 - Flower Patch - 14" square has four flowers with pineapple petals and a deep lacy
ruffle all the way around.
ruffle all the way around.
D-124 - Ruffle Cascade - 21" in diameter. Look close, in addition to the pineapples there
is actually an inner ruffle as well.
D-120 - Pineapple Trellis - This small, 8.5" square, doily is quite elegant with the
single pineapple flower on a mesh trellis and simple ruffle.
D-116 - Sunburst - 11.5" in diameter. Did I hear a WOW? Doily is sun shaped, with
12 counted pineapples to mark the times of day.

D-122 - Flowering Pine - 13" in diameter. This doily is also shown on the back cover.
D-122 - Flowering Pine, graces the back cover. At 13 inches, we have a pineapple flower center with loose pineapple petals in the corners, along with scallops and mesh.

Cowl Neck Dress Sewing Patterns
Cowl Neck: The cowl neck is similar to the turtleneck but features a collar of folded fabric but instead of being close fitting, the collar is wider and drapes loosely around the neck. Flatters larger women with heavier builds and wide faces and necks. Does not flatter smaller or petite women as the width of the collar will emphasize a horizontal line and make the woman look stumpy. (From Shining Knight Jewelry)
I love Cowl Neck Dresses. My all time favorite was a maternity Cowl I wore it to work so often that I'm sure my co-workers were thinking of taking up a pool to buy me something else. I have several in my closet now. But, for unknown reasons, I seem to think of them as winter wear. I'm working on changing this, obviously incorrect concept.
I was recently browsing through my dress patterns and couldn't help but note the different styles of cowl necks. Here are three of my favorites.
Here, the cowl does not have much of a drape, but folds over several times. More than a double rolled neckline, but definitely a controlled cowl. The gathers to the yoke soften the look.
What are your favorites?
You can see more about these three by clicking the link under the picture. There are a couple more cowl dresses, should you care to browse.

This one is not a true cowl neckline, with it's distance from the neck. Butterick are calling it a cowl effect. It does make a very nice statement on this casual to evening dress. It is soft and delicate and would be wonderful with short pearls or a choker.
This is a versatile dress in that the cowl is detachable. Wear it with, or wear it without the cowl. With this concept, one could simply make up a variety of cowls to wear with ... well, whatever.
What are your favorites?

Mens Front Zippered Jacket or Shirt, Butterick 3049
Someone liked this shirt so much that they cut it right off the pattern cover .... Seriously, that's not a white shirt on the center guy, the someone carefully cut it out and you are seeing white from the inside of the back cover.
And, who's to blame them. This is a great looking pattern. Butterick are calling it a shirt, but it would serve just as well as a lightweight jacket. It has a pointed collar, front zipper closing, side seam pockets, raglan sleeves and elasticized waistband.
Trully, what's not to like. This pattern would date to the early 1970s, but is as stylish in todays fashions, as then. Here's the instruction sheet view (the debonair images of the 70s man are great fun).
I only have one, in a Chest 38, in my shop. Wish I had one in my husband' size. I have a small collection of other mens shirts/jackets if you should be in the mood to shop.

Crocheted Ripple Socks, Free Pattern
Now, how fun are these ? Pair them up with a mini, pull them up over skinny jeans. Whatever you do, I wouldn't try to hide them; these sweet socks are meant to be seen. If you think these are cute, you should see the similiar spats and gloves in the book
These are from Star Book 183, by American Thread Company. This booklet was issued back in the early 1960s as advertising. Make this pattern; use our yarn. The pattern, in the book, is available in both crochet and knit versions. I'm sharing the crochet version here in my Blog for your stitching fun.

If you make these up, please stop back by and leave a comment on how they turned out !
