Rondell Fiber Art @ Jazzfest 2011

One of the top 10 reasons we continue to live in New Orleans is Jazz Fest.   Seriously.    Although we do not attend all 7 days, over the two weekends, we do attend at least two each weekend.   Sharing the music, the food with 100,000 or so other folks is incredible ... rain or shine.   Oh, and don't let me forget to mention the Art.   Each weekend two distinct areas are graced with many talented artists.   And, each weekend it changes to a new group.

This year my favorite music performance was a tie between Tom Jones and Kid Rock, and another tie on food between the Sausage/Jalepeno bread and the duck gumbo, but when it came to the Art, over both weekends, their was just one that clearly stood out in my mind.    And that, is the Fiber Art of Ronald Witherspoon. (The site appears to be down at the moment; hopefully it will be restored soon).

Mr. Witherspoon creates marvelous pieces of art using bits of string, braids, yarns, etc. to create a marvelous series of fiber art.   Each framed picture contains either a sole person, or a group outline in black and then adorned with the fibers.   Each piece is incredible and, if you ever get the opportunity to see them in person, don't pass it up.

Thanks for dropping by, and hope to see you at Jazz Fest 2012 !

  1. It's now been about two years since his website has been down. Does anybody know what he's been up to lately?
